A researcher writing an article about the death of Vince Foster for the right-wing Daily Mail went to the National Archives in Washington DC. On the first day of his visit to the archive, the archivist on duty gave him the documents but on the second day, another archivist said he couldn’t find them.
This is spun by the article’s author into something dark and sinister.
This is odd for two reasons. First, it is not unusual for archival documents to be misshelved or otherwise misplaced. Second, the author of the piece reporting on this mishap is the subject of the piece, wiping out any claim to journalistic objectivity.
But there is more. The author is none other than Ronald Kessler, whom the Washington Post call “[t]he chief Washington correspondent for Newsmax.com, which bills itself as ‘the #1 conservative news agency online'” and who has written attack pieces on Democrats and puff pieces on Republicans. He also apparently bent the truth in his defense of the use of torture and the PATRIOT Act. It is simply beyond the scope of this article to review his life and works. And so we have Wikileaks citing a dubious source which stands for everything Wikileaks is supposedly struggling against.
